Curriculum

The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program MDER ‘Management of the Development of European Regions’ begins in the winter semester of each academic year.

To obtain the Postgraduate Diploma, ninety (90) ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are required. All courses are taught weekly over thirteen (13) teaching weeks.

The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program follows the academic calendar of the University of Thessaly. The language of instruction and of the Master’s Thesis is English. During their studies, students are required to attend and successfully complete ten (10) courses, as well as to prepare a Master’s Thesis.

The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program provides for three examination periods within the span of one year.

The two examination periods take place after the end of the academic semesters. The third examination period is held during the first half of September and concerns the examination of students who have failed in the examination period of either the first or the second academic semester.

The timetable of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program is prepared under the responsibility of the Chair of the Department of Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly, following a proposal by the Director of the Program. The timetable is communicated to the students by the Secretariat of the Program.

If a course is not conducted due to force majeure, it is rescheduled under the responsibility of the Director of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program within the same academic semester. The Director informs the Assembly of the Department of Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly accordingly.

Additional Information

Elective Courses

Elective courses that are selected by fewer than four (4) students will not be offered. In such cases, students who have chosen an elective course that will ultimately not be available will be asked to make a new selection.

Class Attendance / Absences

Attendance in all courses is mandatory.
Absences may only be justified in cases where there is a serious reason preventing the student from attending classes. In any case, absences cannot exceed 1/5 of the total teaching hours for each course during the academic semester.

If the absence limit is exceeded, the student has the right to retake the specific course only once, during the next period it is offered, and must pay the corresponding fee, i.e., 1/5 of the total tuition fee for that semester (i.e., €240).

Approval by the Program’s Academic Committee is required, following a relevant recommendation by the Coordinating Committee.

Academic Advisor

For each postgraduate student, the Program Committee, following a recommendation by the Coordinating Committee, appoints one faculty member of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program as Academic Advisor and another as Thesis Supervisor.

The Academic Advisor is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the overall academic progress of the student.
The advisor meets individually with the student at least once per academic semester (either in person or via teleconference), offering guidance and support on matters related to study progress, course selection, academic choices, and future prospects.
