
Professor of Political Economy at the European Institute, London School of Economics and holder of the Eleftherios Venizelos Chair in Contemporary Greek Studies at LSE. He is Affiliated Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment, LSE, and Director of the LSE Centre for Research on Contemporary Greece and Cyprus. His research focuses on economic policy and performance at the regional, national and supra-national levels, with emphasis on labor markets, industrial policy and economic development.
He has published widely in economics and regional science journals, including Regional Studies, Urban Studies, the Journal of Regional Science, the Cambridge Journal of Regions Economy and Society, the British Journal of Industrial Relations, the Journal of Common Market Studies, the European Journal of Political Economy, Oxford Economics Papers and others; and has authored various policy reports for the European Commission and collaborated in projects by the UNDP, the Regional Cooperation Council, and the UK and Greek governments.
He has received various distinctions including the Moss Madden Medal in Regional Science (2008). In 2018-2021 he served as member of Independent Experts Committee on the Minimum Wage in Greece. He is Co-editor of Spatial Economic Analysis (Taylor & Francis) and member of the Scientific Council for Social Sciences of the National Council of Research Technology and Innovation of Greece and various advisory and editorial boards. He has a PhD in Economic Geography and MSc and BSc degrees in Economics.
