Alexandra Sotiriou

Assistant Professor

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Planning and Regional Development, Laboratory of Development Policy. She holds a B.Sc. Degree in International and European Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business and a Master’s and a Ph.D. Degree from the Department of Geography and Environment, London School of Economics and Political Science.

Her research is situated at the intersection of international trade, regional economic growth, and spatial inequality, with a particular emphasis on the growth effects of trade and integration across and within countries. Employing quantitative and econometric methodologies, her work has been published in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including Regional Studies, The Journal of Development Studies, and The Annals of Regional Science.

Her empirical research encompasses analyses of trade policy in developing economies (e.g., Chile), the impact of international trade on Greece following its accession to the Eurozone, and the regional development dynamics of European integration across EU member states. Dr. Sotiriou has participated in a number of research projects funded by Horizon Europe (ESSPIN), HFRI (DISINREG) and GSRT (IME). She possesses teaching experience in European integration and EU policies, having taught at LSE and the University of Thessaly.
