Christos Pitelis

Professor

Christos Pitelis is Professor of the Economics of Markets and Firms and Director of the Laboratory for Strategy and International Competitiveness at the Department of Economics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He is also a Life Fellow at Queens’ College, University of Cambridge.

He formerly served as Director of the Centre for International Business and Management (CIBAM) at the University of Cambridge, and has acted as an advisor to international organizations, governments, and enterprises. He was Chairman of the Board of the Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium Enterprises and Handicraft (EOMMEX), coordinator of the national project “The Future of Greek Industry,” and principal author of the Consensus Industrial Policy for Greece (1994–1997).

His research focuses on political economy, governance, and strategy, with an emphasis on policies and practices for achieving sustainable competitiveness at the levels of organizations, nations, and firms. His work also explores globalization, international business, business ecosystems, SME and multinational networks, financial crises, and global governance.

Professor Pitelis has authored more than ten books with international publishers and over one hundred articles in prestigious academic journals, including Academy of Management Review, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Industrial and Corporate Change, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and International Journal of Industrial Organization, among others.

He has presented, chaired, organized, and been invited as keynote speaker at more than 200 conferences worldwide. He has also held visiting professorships at institutions such as UC Berkeley, University of Bath, Brunel, Nottingham, St Andrews, University of Technology Sydney, Utrecht, China-Europe Management Institute, and Copenhagen Business School.

Christos Pitelis is the editor of The Collected Works of Edith Penrose, co-editor of the Cambridge Journal of Economics, and serves on the editorial boards of Management International Review and European Management Review. He has also served on the boards of Organization Science and Organization Studies, and acted as guest editor for journals such as Organization Studies, Contributions to Political Economy, Corporate Governance, International Business Review, Management International Review, Industrial and Corporate Change, and the Cambridge Journal of Economics.
