Nikos Gavanas

Assistant Professor

Nikos Gavanás is an Assistant Professor of Transportation at the Department of Planning and Regional Development. He holds a PhD in Transportation Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). He also holds a Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning and a Civil Engineering diploma from AUTH. He has taught as a contractual academic instructor at the Department of Planning and Development and the Department of Civil Engineering at AUTH, as well as at the Department of Civil Engineering Technological Education at the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly. He has worked as a Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, as a researcher in national and European research projects, and as a transportation consultant. He has served as a member of the Sectoral Scientific Council (SSC) on Environment, Energy, and Sustainable Mobility of the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (NCRTI) (Government Gazette 932/09-11-2020-Y.O.D.D.). His research interests focus on transportation planning, traffic engineering, transportation policy, sustainable and smart mobility, infrastructure networks, and spatial development.
